Expanding Your Membership Site

| September 15, 2009

One of the main questions new managers of member sites ask is “How do I expand my membership site?” Sure, you can tell all your friends, family members and co-workers about your new site and hope they pass on the message, but is there anything else that can be done?

Yes there is. You can become an affiliate.

So what is an affiliate?

Basically, an affiliate program is a type of internet-based marketing that a business or product seller sets up so that other people can sell their products for a commission. You will be related to another company, working closely with them to get your site out there, but not controlled by it.

In other words, it’s a marketing strategy used to gain extra income by advertising for certain businesses. You, the manger of your member site will also become the affiliate program manager in order to promote your membership site.

It’s one of the best ways to direct traffic to your site and earn you potential customers.

Sound’s good doesn’t it?

But it gets better.

First off, in most cases, affiliate programs are free. The merchant does not gain a marketing expense unless results are accrued. This means no high costs and no hassles.

Second off, it’s a lot easier getting help from an affiliate program than starting from scratch. With an affiliate, you are basically just joining onto something that customers already know of. This means there is no need to try and pitch your idea of something new, which is difficult to do, to say the least.

Furthermore, with an affiliate program, there is less risk involved and a better chance of getting customers to your site.
Thirdly, there is a wide selection of different affiliate programs depending on what kind of website you are running. Just make sure you look for businesses that are relative to your niche market.

Fourthly, you will be making an income 24/7 by not doing anything! Even while you are sleeping, someone could be online, clicking onto your site and joining your website.

And, best of all, the affiliate programs will help get your product exactly to your right customers. If your website is about gardening, then your main target audience is avid gardeners. The affiliate programs will work in getting those customers to your website.

This creates a better opportunity to put your business out there to make you money! Because, let’s face it, we need to rely on more business than just friends and family.

And, with the help of affiliate programs, you will be well on your way to gaining hundreds, if not thousands of members!

However, the whole process can get a little confusing and hard to maintain if you don’t have the correct help. That’s why it’s essential to read through the Membership Sites Made Easy in order to get the most from your affiliate programs.

After all, everyone could use a little help, and with affiliate programs and Membership Sites Made Easy, help is just a click away.

What Is Viral Marketing And How Does It Benefit Internet Marketers?

| August 5, 2009

41The practice of viral marketing can be very useful to internet marketers. Viral marketing consists of giving away free products or services along with your original ad copy such as links, contact information, and mailing list.

In return, those who receive your free products can pass it along to their own customers and prospects. Viral marketing is a great way to advertise for free and without a lot of effort on your part.

Internet marketers should be aware of the value of viral marketing. The ability to advertise your products to a large audience is of great value to you. You can increase your sales and traffic to your web site through the sharing of free information.

Some of the more effective methods of viral marketing are:

Ebooks.

You can share your free ebook with all who visit your web site. You should include an advertisement for your most profitable product and links to your web site. Make sure to inform those who receive your free ebook that they are free to share it with their own customers and contacts.

Software.

You can offer a free trial version of your software to your web site visitors. As with the ebook, include links to your site and your contact information. State plainly on your web site that all those who receive it can share the software freely.

Free web hosting.

You can provide free hosting on your server to small businesses or beginning internet marketers. In return, place a banner ad at the top of each site advertising your products and web site. This is a very effective means of advertising your site with little expense. The potential increase in the number of visitors to your web site is worth your efforts.

Templates.

You can design your own web site templates, including your own contact information in the design, and offer them as free downloads. Make sure to expressly grant permission for them to be shared with others.

Content.

You can provide original content about your particular area of expertise. Include your contact information and web site in the text and allow others to publish it as long as they keep your information intact. As this information is shared and published by others you will attract more traffic to your web site.

Discussion boards.

Setting up a discussion board or forum with your banner ad attached is an excellent means of advertising. Invite your web site visitors to join your discussion board and make it available to the public.

Internet marketers should make themselves aware of all means of free advertising. The more you spread the word about your products and services, the more traffic you will draw to your web site.

Internet marketing is extremely competitive and you should use all the avenues that are available to you in advertising your web site and products. Experiment with the various ways of viral marketing until you find the ones that work best for you. Increased visibility means more traffic to your web site and more traffic will translate in to higher sales.

Successful internet marketers not only provide valuable products and services, they use any means possible to advertise to as many people as possible. The success of your business rests on your ability to promote your web site.

How To Avoid the Dreaded "Craigslist Ghosting"

| April 7, 2009

Craigslist is one of the online tools used by many entrepreneurs to move products and services today. With a category for just about anything one can imagine, it is easy to post ads and begin generating some income. That is, unless your ads become subject to ghosting.

Ghosting is a phenomenon where your ads can be viewed by the poster, but not by anyone else. In some cases, this effect is simply a lag time with the Craigslist server, and the ad will be visible to everyone in a half-hour or so.  However, that is not always the case.

There may be limitations that slow down and possibly cause the ad to be removed altogether. Here are some tips to minimize the chances of your ad experiencing the dreaded state of ghosting.

How to Get Started

First, set up several different email accounts to use for your posting. This is especially important if you plan on posting similar ads in more than one city listing. Multiple posts originating from the same email address and containing similar or exact verbiage often never make it through the screening and if they do are soon flagged for removal.

Use more than one free email service to accomplish this, and vary the name on the email account as well to further minimize changes of being flagged.

Another tip is to make use of multiple IP addresses to make your posts. It is possible to obtain several addresses to use.  Alternatively, you can go with using different computers and more than on ISP to make it easy to have access to multiple IP addresses. Keep in mind the idea is to create as many differences between your contact information as possible.

Another sure way of experiencing ghosting is to post a huge amount of similar ads in a given twenty-four hour period. This is true even if you are using multiple email addresses and more than one IP address. To stay below the radar and have your ads viewable to the general public, post no more than a handful of ads in various cities.

Make sure you post no more than one ad in related categories in any one city. You can post ads in one batch of cities today, then hit different cities tomorrow.

A word on the text of your ad – change it up. Similar wording, even when the ads are appearing in different cities, can often raise some concern and may lead to not only having the ads never appear, but also get your email addresses banned from further posting privileges.

Take some time and come up with three or four different ad texts that still get the point across, but are not mirror images of one another.

Diversify Your Options

Keep in mind that while any one of these tips will minimize the chances of ghosting on Craigslist, they are not guaranteed to do the trick all by themselves.  For this reason, you should seriously consider making use of at least two of these options, and more if you possibly can.

The idea is to give each ad and the contact information enough distinction that the Craigslist system does not flag and ultimately reject all or most of your ads.
